Ach Weh des Leiden

from Old Songs for Summer by Rion Sanura

/

about

A sad madrigal by German composer Hans Leo Hassler (~1564–1612), published in 1601.

lyrics

Ach Weh des Leiden,
muss es dann sein gescheiden?
Ach Weh mir Armen,
wen sollt's doch nicht erbarmen?
Ach Weh des Schmerzen,
so ich empfind im Herzen.
Muss ich dich dann aufgeben,
so kost's mir mein Leben.

Translation:
Ah, the pain of suffering:
must we then be separated?
Ah, poor me,
who would not have mercy on me?
Ah, the pain of sorrows
that I feel in my heart.
If I must give you up
it will cost me my life.
